Welcome to our website!

The Beagle Association of Gauteng was formed in 2013 and is the only Beagle club in South Africa affiliated to the Kennel Union of South Africa.

Our Aim is to:
  • Protect the breed by promoting responsible and ethical breeding of Beagles in South Africa
  • Maintain the breed in accordance to the existing breed standard approved by KUSA
  • Provide the breed with representation at KUSA provincial council level
  • Provide all enthusiasts with authoritative information on the breed
  • Encourage the exhibiting of purebred registered dogs in breed and working disciplines.

Apart from the addition of & relevant suitable photos our website is now virtually complete, so please browse and contact us if you require any further information. We hope to be able to add these over the next couple of months. We hope that you will enjoy browsing our website, and that you find a lot of useful and interesting information.
As there are many half truths and much hyperbole regarding the breed circulated via social networks and other websites, we would like this site to become the definitive source of accurate information on the Beagle breed in South Africa & the go to site for anyone looking for information on the breed .  Additional material, as it becomes available, will be added from time to time. The Events page will be updated monthly so please check it regularly for news.

The Beagle is no more high maintenance than any other dog. Every dog requires food, shelter, warmth, love, company, stimulation and exercise - if you don't have the resources to fulfil these needs then it is best not to own a dog. The Beagle, essentially being a hunting dog, however does have one specific needs- due to its highly developed working instinct i.e. scent-work - the Beagle requires a  very secure property and supervision when running free. Although the Beagle is a hunting dog, it is also one of the best family dogs, generally great with children and super with other pets. More can be found on the rest of the website.

The roll of honor on the left represents the top 3 Beagles in the breed ring nationally, on the date mentioned. Further information and more details can be found on the results page.

OPEN SHOW 2021

Our open show, held on 24 April 2021, turned out to be a huge success! With many entries from pet owners and fellow enthusiasts, the committee couldn't be happier with how well the day went! We want to congratulate all the winners, thank all the exhibitors, and ensure you that we are looking forward to the next opportunity to host an open show and fun day!

In loving memory

Picture
In July 2020 the Beagle Association of Gauteng and it's members had to sadly say our goodbyes to a legend, a lady who had loads of passion and knowledge, a lady that spent 30 odd years of her life dedicated to the Beagle breed.

Ms Shuna de Villiers, known in and around the show ring for her Pinoak Beagles, and former chairman of the Beagle Association, sadly passed away in July 2020. She will be remembered for her passion and dedication, wit and knowledge. Shuna will be sorely missed, not only by the Beagle people, but all around the dog world.
Rest in peace, Shuna!
